McDowell figures out Pebble while Tiger struggles


Graeme McDowell has shot 3-under-par 68 in the second round of the U.S. Open to take a two-shot lead over Ernie Els, Dustin Johnson and 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa entering the weekend.
McDowell's 3 under Friday at cloudy Pebble Beach left him at 3-under 139 for the tournament.
Tiger Woods struggled, shooting 1-over 72 to finish at 4 over, seven shots behind McDowell. For a while, Woods was behind by nine, a few bad swings from possibly missing the cut. That appeared unlikely after he birdied No. 7 and McDowell finished with a bogey.

Phil Mickelson had an afternoon tee time, trying to improve on his first round of 4 over. Other afternoon starters included K.J. Choi, Mike Weir and Ian Poulter, all finishing Thursday at 1 under
